Photo Log: We Went to the State Fair
We always go to the fair on kid day because it’s free dollars! Luckily it was on a day Jake was not working so we packed our car for rain or shine and drove an hour to the fair. It seems that every time the fair has crappy weather, we have such family fun. Last year when it was nice out, I can’t say it was the highlight of my summer. This year it was cloudy and rained on our way out and we all had a great time!
Oh no! The Bicken Family got lost from their flock and landed at the state fair. The birds were sprinkled throughout the fair and they were so cute! Obsessed that each one had a name. Last year they had unicorns and I died.
The science area was a hit. They had fun puzzles to solve, bubble stations, mystery scents, and other science experiments. It reminded me a lot of the Discovery Center at the Anchorage Museum.
The Reptile World is always a hit too. There are so many snakes to look at as well as turtles, birds, and fish. The tops of the snake tanks are covered but what if… 😳.
I always pack the girls a lunch and snack because the first year we took them to the fair, we spent a bagillion dollars on food they never ended up eating. Jake wanted the curly fry block so we shared that. The seasoning needed to be throughout, otherwise they were okay.
I don’t know how we missed the petting zoo! They always have goats and you get to feed them. It was an udder disappointment! Pun intended w/ pic. 😁 We saw the cutest baby sheep, pigs, and bunnies though.
The girls LOVE going on the ferris wheel. They talk about it all year, “when do we get to go on the ferris wheel again?!”. We went on the gondola ferris wheel this time. I don’t know how those things are safe. 😂 No seatbelts, it slightly rocks, and it has locked swing doors. The girls kept wanting to look over the edge and I almost lost my marbles. Other ride faves are the roller coasters and the merry-go-round. WHICH I almost forgot! I took the girls on the kiddie caterpillar rollercoaster and thought it was over, my life and the ride. It stopped working mid-ride, then went backwards… cause gravity, ya know. They had FOUR guys push the coaster back to the start. And then sent me on my way for another ride. 😳
There’s not many games for littles at the fair. They usually play the frog game and the duck game. The one where you pick a duck for the size of a crappy toy. It’s always an ‘S’ for small and the fun lasts eight seconds. It’s their favorite toy for the car ride only and then ends up in the donation basket. This year it was a purple dino.
We got ice cream on the way out which I think was the best parental choice we made and will repeat for years to come. No one complains that we are leaving. They’re too busy enjoying their treat and we exit the fair without carrying out any screaming children.
