Giraffe Books for Giraffe Lovers | Books About Giraffes for Kids & Other Giraffe Resources

My oldest daughter is doing an animal research project about her favorite animal—horses. Of course her little sister want to do it too! My youngest’s favorite animal is the giraffe. She does the paintings and I help her with the writing a.k.a. I do the writing 🤪. She’s only four.

I’ve gathered a round up of resources we used to learn more about the giraffe.

GIRAFFE BOOKS FOR CHILDREN:

She really enjoyed looking at the pictures in these books. You’re able to gather a lot of information by doing a picture walk! What to you notice? What does the animal look like? What does the scenery look like? What are they eating? Afterwards, read the text aloud! These are written for small children in mind.

The GirlWho Loved Giraffes by Kathy Stinson: Anne Innis Dagg was the first woman (and person) to study giraffes. This biography tells the story how Anne fell in love with the giraffe and went on to study them.

OTHER RESOURCES ABOUT GIRAFFES:

While perusing the library we found an amazing documentary about giraffes. It is called The Woman Who Loves Giraffes. The documentary tells the story of Anne Innis Dagg who fell in love with giraffes when she saw one in a zoo. Then she had a lifelong dream to go to Africa to study giraffe. Then she did! Despite the challenges she faced. Anne learned a lot by watching giraffes every day for months. She’s the Jane Goodall of giraffes!

We found the Anne Innis Dagg Foundation website where you can learn her story and all about giraffe conservation. We also joined the Junior Giraffe Club! They meet once a month via zoom. They have guest speakers that share about giraffes and wildlife conservation. We saw Anne during the meeting! It was so exciting! Anne’s daughter is also part of the meetings.

Through attending one of the meetings we were introduced to africam! You can watch live streaming of watering holes in Africa. It’s so cool! We’ve seen monkeys in trees, a crocodile, and another animal we weren’t sure what it was. It’s really awesome!

I’ve learned some amazing things about giraffes through this project! What’s your favorite animal or your kids’ favorite animal? Let us know below!
