Library Book Haul: Just the Faves

It was a bright, sunny day. One of the few sunny days we have had all summer. And the girls wanted to go to the library instead of playing outside. So we went. And almost maxed out our library card!

I feel like it’s real hard to find the gems out there. Many of the books we bring home are, in my opinion, complete duds. I let the girls add whatever books they want to our book bin. There’s really no rhyme or reason to their book selections. Every now and then we find a real winner though.

Out of the almost fifty books we brought home, these ones were the faves.

CHILDREN’S PICTURE BOOKS FOR GRADES K-2

The Carrot Seed by Ruth Krauss: A little boy plants a carrot seed. Everyone tells him it won’t grow but he has faith that it will grow by continuing to weed and water the seed.

*Not my fave but the girls liked this book and it inspired them to make their own horns which they call “corns” out of paper and string!

Library Mouse by Daniel Kirk: Sam the mouse lives in the library. He decides to write his own stories and place them on the bookshelf for the kids to read. The kids want to meet the author and when they do, they realize they are authors too! Everyone has a story to tell.

*Also, not my favorite story. The overall message is nice but I didn’t care for the plot. My kids liked it and my oldest was inspired to make her own books. She started to make an ABC book for her little sister who is learning the alphabet.

Oh No, George! by Chris Haughton: George is left at home. He is told to behave himself but there are too many tempting things!

Madeline and the Old House in Paris by John Bemelmans Marciano: Madeline and Pepito hear moaning in the attic. When they go to check it out they meet Felix de la Morte who is in distress. The pair dress in disguise to get Felix’s telescope back so he can see the comet he’s been waiting for.

How often do you guys make it to the library? I wish we went more often than we actually do. The girls always want to go to the one in town but it’s a bit of a drive and we have a small library down the street. What’s a mom to do, ya know?
