My Kingfolk Bible
A year or so ago I discovered bible journaling. I know… have I been living under a rock or what? I had no idea bible journaling was a thing. All I knew was there was never enough space in the margins in any of my bibles and I didn’t like having a separate notebook for note taking. I would never look back at my notes. So it was pointless. How to Faith a Life introduced me to the world of bible journaling and I am forever a different note taker.
Once I discovered bible journaling, I went on a hunt for the perfect bible journal. I gotta say… not impressed with most of them because the covers are pretty lame. They’re very plain or a little cheesy in design. I know they say, “don’t judge a book by it’s cover.” But I do. Sorry (kinda). I wanted a bible that was pretty and one I thought I looked cool carrying around. Enter Kingfolk bibles.
Honestly, I don’t remember how I came across Kingfolk Co. They entered my life and that’s all that matters. I was instantly obsessed with their covers. I sent their website to all my friends. I was hoping for an NIV bible journal but it apparently wasn’t a deal breaker. They only have ESV or King James.
I went back and forth on so many prints. First the rainbow, then the smiley faces. The tie dye caught my eye though and ultimately I kept going back to it. So I paid a pretty penny for it and I’m so glad I did! It appears this design is no longer available. I still love it to this very day. It’s very 60s/70s vintage, nostalgic vibes. The colors came out just as pictured—very vibrant and fun. The design is printed on top of Crossway ESV bibles.
It’s pages are thin and depending on which markers/pens you use, it could bleed through. I use the Mildliner highlighters and Papermate Pilot Ball 1.4mm pens. Kingfolk recommended to apply gentle pressure when using the highlighters. The pens I use have a larger, rounded tip but they are my favorite pens. My husband likes to use a classic ball point pen. To each their own. I think I write with a lot of pressure. My writing doesn’t go through the page, but it can indent the page if that makes any sense?
My bible did not come with tabbed chapters. I had to purchase the tabs separately from Kingfolk. I did get the matching tie dye tabs. I was scared sticking them to the pages only because if I made a mistake, I was dunzo. I don’t think it would have come off the page very easily. The page probably would have ripped. They are so fragile. Kerri King (the owner) has a video on how she attaches the tabs. Which I watched but you know, 66 tabs. One is bound to go wrong.
I also got a bible cover from Kingfolk. I know, I went all out. I mostly use it traveling to church but looking back, I think I could do without. I put my bible in the bible cover, then inside a tote bag. A little redundant for me. The bible cover is a zippered bag with an outside handle and exterior zippered pocket. The inside has pen slots and open pockets for storing paper, stickers, etc.
This is the only bible journal I’ve tried so I may be biased but I did a lot of research before I picked one. Here’s a bit more about these bibles.
WHAT ARE KINGFOLK BIBLES?
Kingfolk bibles are Crossway ESV and KJV journaling bibles with covers designed by Kerri King. Kerri King had the idea to use her art and creativity to level up bibles. She wanted to make them more fun and cute and get folks into their bibles! She sells her bibles online at Etsy or her website Kingfolk Co.
WHAT IS A JOURNAL BIBLE?
A journal bible is a note taking bible. Dedicated lines in the margins makes it easier to read, take notes, write prayers, add artwork—anything you want to remember that allows you to grow closer to God. Kingfolk’s bibles have 2 inch ruled margins for writing.
WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE BIBLE?
Kingfolk’s bibles include the New and Old Testament. It has a ribbon bookmark. The front includes a table of contents, the books listed in ABC order, and a preface. The back of the book includes a year long reading plan as well as a weights, measures, and monetary table.
Have you tried a journal bible? Which one? What are your favorite bible-ing tools?!
