Fruit Charm Necklace

I watched Jenna Phipps’ youtube video a while back on how she made her own charm necklace. She made a variety of different charm necklaces. She made some of her own charms. They turned out super cute! And I wanted to make my own.

I didn’t want to make my own charms so I was on the look out for other small charms. I checked thrift stores and bead shops. Then I found some at Michael’s! They have a whole wall of charms! The fruit charms I found were the perfect size and the necklace turned out a-dor-a-ble! It was super easy to make.

Here’s what you need to make your very own!

SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR A FRUIT CHARM NECKLACE:

-chain (14-16in length)

-jump rings

-bead landing fruit charms (5-7 charms)

-clasp

-clasp tab

-flat nose pliers

-side cutter pliers

HOW TO MAKE A FRUIT CHARM NECKLACE:

1. Use side cutter pliers and cut your chain however long you’d like it to be. I started out with 16 inches and after I added the charms I ended up cutting it down to 15 inches.

2. Use your flat nose pliers to detach fruit charms from the card and to remove the jump rings. You totally don’t have to remove the jump rings but I wanted to use skinnier jump rings and I wanted the jump rings to match the chain I was using. I think I used 5mm jump rings.

3. Lay out what order you want the charms and how far a part. I spaced mine about 2-3 chain links apart.

4. Use flat nose pliers to add the charms to a new jump ring. You can skip this step if you’re using the jump rings that came with the charms.

5. Attach fruit charms to your chain.

6. Add a jump ring to the end of one side of your chain with your flat nose pliers. I used a 6mm jump ring for the closure. Then add a clasp tab and close the jump ring with the flat nose pliers.

7. Take the flat nose pliers and add a clasp to the other side of the chain.

8. Ta da! You have the cutest fruit charm necklace!

Tidbits: Paper clip chains or curb chains tend to be popular chains to use.

I think an odd number of charms looks best.

This is one of my favorite necklaces! It’s super cute to layer with other necklaces. I love to pair it with my gold paper clip necklace. Making this necklace takes no time and while it may cost just the same to buy one (a cheap one) than make one, it won’t be the same because you made your own!
