My Ultra Simple Morning Skincare Routine
Up until a week ago my skincare routine consisted of two products. Then I got some rando pimples and forgot about my spot treatments. I haven’t used them lately because I think the change in my diet has really helped clear my skin. I hardly get hormonal break outs these days. But one decided to show her lovely face on my jaw line and I had to bring out the soldiers.
I also recently watched one of Dr. Shereene Idriss’s videos. I don’t remember what she was talking about except she said vitamin C and sunscreen alone aren’t gonna do a whole lot. Wah. I took her advice and decided to target one skin care problem I have—dry skin. It’s winter in Alaska and my skin just cracks and crumbles. I tried Aveeno’s Calm + Restore Triple Oat Hydrating Face Serum for Sensitive Skin last winter and found she didn’t do much for me. I went to Ulta last week and got the Cocokind Barrier Nourishing Daily Serum. I’m a week in and so far I like the feel of it and its sat nicely with the other products on my face.
My skincare routine now has an additional product. I made the above photo ⬆️ weeks before I completed this post and decided to add in the third product. I was too lazy to make a new photo. Just an FYI :)
My ultra simple morning skincare routine
Step 1a: I do not wash my face in the morning. I use a wet rag and gently wipe down my face and get the crusties off my eyes. I have watery eyes.
Step 1b: If a pimple has decided to make a guest appearance, I use a prescription Clindamycin solution as a spot treatment. I just dab it on the spot and wait a few to let it dry.
Step 2: Then, I use 2-3 drops of Cocokind Barrier Nourishing Daily Serum. This product is new to me as of a week ago and I am using it to target dry skin.
Step 3: Next, I use 1-1/2 pumps of Vanicream Vitamin C. This is my absolute favorite vitamin C. The vitamin C in this product is tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate. All I know is it is more stable than L-ascorbic acid and magnesium ascorbyl phosphate. I’ve tried products with both of these forms of vitamin C and they always oxidize in the bottle and on my face. I don’t know what I’ll do if they ever stop making the Vanicream Vitamin C! If you want to know more about vitamin C, I suggest binge watching Dr. Shereene Idriss’ videos.
Step 4a: Lastly, I use a pea size amount of La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer UV SPF 30. I love this one because it feels like a lotion but has sunscreen in it. I’ve tried many sunscreen lotions that feel like sunscreen, this ain’t that!
Step 4b: If I’m feeling self-conscious about that zit, I’ll use Peach Slices Acne Dots to cover it up. I like these ones because they come in different sizes and they’re cheaper than the Mighty Patches.
It’s been quit the journey to get to this point. I’ve done skincare routines with many more products and I’ve spent a lot of money trying to find the right products for my skin. I feel like I’ve hit my sweet spot. I’ve learned less is more and consistency over time provides results.
