DIY Ocean Rice Sensory Bin

SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR DIY OCEAN SENSORY BIN:

- 12 cups white rice

-32L plastic bin w/ lid

-plastic bag or glass container with lid

-isopropyl alcohol

-blue food coloring

-baking sheet

-ocean animals

-fake fish bowl plants

-cups, scoopers, ladles etc.

HOW TO MAKE DIY OCEAN SENSORY BIN:

1. Take 2 cups of white rice and place it into a plastic bag or glass container. We did twelve cups, 2 cups at a time. There were three of us so we each got to shake the bags twice!

2. Add 1-2 tsp. isopropyl alcohol and a couple drops of blue food coloring to the rice bags.

3. Close tight and shake, shake, shake!

4. Lay rice on a baking sheet and let the rice air dry. It doesn’t take that long for the rice to dry.

5. Once the rice is dry, dump it into a plastic bin with a lid.

6. Add ocean accessories such as ocean animals, fake plants, play rocks, sea shells etc.

7. Have fun!

*Side notes: Kids’ hands may get blue dye on them but it does come off with handwashing.

I like to use a bedsheet underneath the rice bin so that I can easily dump any misplaced rice back into the bin once the girls are done playing with it. They spend hours playing with the rice sensory bin.

I’m always looking for new sensory bin themes! Any ideas? Type them in the comments below!
